Moneyfields Reserves produce one of the best results of the 2019/20 local league season to reach semi-finals of Hampshire Trophy

Moneyfields Reserves produced a stunning performance to record one of the best victories of the local non-league football season.

Paul O’Rielly’s youthful side progressed to the semi-finals of the Hampshire Trophy with a 3-1 victory at higher division Colden Common.

It was a superb result considering Common’s 12-match unbeaten league and cup run had only ended the previous week at HPL top flight high-flyers Fleetlands.

Even more so when you add in the fact that Moneys had lost 4-1 at Common in a HPL Cup tie at the end of October.

It was the fifth successive round that Moneys had been drawn away in, and the fifth round in which leading marksman Dan Penfold had netted.

Skipper Jake Knight and Brandon Elliott were also on target for a Moneys side currently top of the HPL second tier having only dropped two points in 11 games.

Dave Paskins, with his 21st goal of the term, replied for a Common side who also included 32-goal top scorer Sam Adams in their line-up.

Penfold had previously scored Trophy hat-tricks in wins at Mudeford, Liphook Reserves and Bournemouth Manor, and was also on target in a 4-1 win at AFC Portchester Reserves last month.

Moneyfields have finally been given a home tie, and will host Brading Town in the semi-final on February 29.

Brading - a Wessex League top flight club between 2006-2011 - dumped fellow Islanders and last season’s tournament runners-up Whitecroft & Barton Sports out with a 1-0 victory at the weekend.

Fareham Reserves won 2-1 at Alton Reserves with goals from Kelvin Robinson and Cameron Stone.

It was Robinson’s 20th goal of the term in just 19 appearances, while Stone was scoring for the 11th time in 22 matches.

The Reds have certainly taken advantage of their lucky escape to move to within 90 minutes of a Trophy final appearance.

They actually lost 3-2 to HPL title favourites Infinity in an earlier round, before being reinstated when the latter were kicked out for fielding an ineligible player.

Clanfield could become the second HPL side, after Moneys, to reach the semi-final.

Their reward for beating Sholing Reserves 4-3 in a delayed tie is a trip across the Solent to face Shanklin in the last remaining quarter final this weekend.

Owen Milne (2), Ollie Amos and Luke Grice struck against Sholing.

The winners of that tie will host Fareham Reserves in the second Trophy semi at the end of this month.

Sub Seniya Boopa struck twice as Paul Goddard’s men defeated Kingsclere 3-2 to move to within a point of leaders Moneyfields, albeit having played four more games.

And for the sixth time in his last seven appearances, top scorer Danny Lucas also netted - his 14th of the season.

It was Denmead’s sixth successive home league win, and the first in which they had not kept a clean sheet.

Goddard’s side travel to Michelmersh next Saturday, having recently thrashed them 7-0 at Front Lawn, before a huge midweek HLP Cup semi-final tie with reigning Senior Division champions Bush Hill at Locks Heath FC.
