Slough and Dorking will be hoping their last handful of results will count for nothing in this weekend’s first round of National League South play-offs.

Slough host Dartford on Sunday in the first quarter final with the winners booking themselves a trip to Hawks the following Saturday.

That is followed by Dorking Wanderers visiting Bath City later in the afternoon, with the winners visiting Weymouth the following weekend.

Bearing in mind no clubs have played a league game since March 14, the classic phrase ‘form goes out of the window’ is rendered fairly meaningless - no club has any form!

That could be good news for Dorking, who had lost their last five league games by the time 2019/20 was abruptly ended. The last of those was a 2-1 home loss to Hawks, with Dean Beckwith netting a last-minute winner.

Indeed, the Surrey club were second bottom of the form table based on the last 10 matches - picking up only eight points in that time.

Dorking also had the worst record of any of the six play-off teams on opposition territory.

They won five, drew four and lost eight – only the 10th best record in the South table.

Wanderers also conceded 34 goals, more than any of their play-off rivals.

Their heaviest loss was a 6-0 caning at Westleigh Park last August.

They also didn’t score against Bath in two games in 2019/20 - losing 1-0 at Twerton Park and drawing 0-0 at home.

Unsurprisingly, bearing in mind they didn’t lose a game, Hawks enjoyed the best away record in the division.

With 11 wins and six draws, they picked up 39 points – 11 more than the next best travellers, Slough.

Bath ended 2019/20 with the third best home record in the division, with 10 wins and 35 points from 17 games at Twerton Park. The Romans only lost twice on home soil - to Oxford City last August and to St Albans in February.

In terms of banking home points, Hawks were down in eighth place, with eight wins and 28 points from 17 Westleigh Park outings.

No other club in the play-offs lost more home games than their five – though Dorking also lost the same.

That’s not necessarily a stat Hawks need to focus on, bearing in mind they will enjoy home advantage throughout the play-offs as a result of finishing second!

Hawks, though, were enjoying better home form as the campaign progressed.

They beat Weymouth and Slough in February and their last home game in early March saw a 2-0 success against Hampton & Richmond, who finished just outside the play-offs.

Dartford were the division’s form side when the pandemic took hold of the worldwide sporting calendar.

Steve King’s men had won seven of their last 10 games, scoring 20 goals (only eventual champions Wealdstone had scored more) and conceding eight (only Hawks (6) conceded fewer).

Slough, though, were down in 11th in the form table - having won just four of their last 10 matches.

The Rebels did possess a good home record on their 3G pitch, winning nine times in 17 games and losing just three matches. They also completed the double over Dartford, winning 3-2 away and 1-0 at home.
