New-look Gosport Borough silenced by late Hayes & Yeading winner

A stoppage-time goal condemned Gosport Borough to a 2-1 Southern League premier division south defeat at Hayes & Yeading.

The visitors included four new faces in their squad, including loanee Southampton goalkeeper Kingsley Latham.

Other loanees included striker Tyrrell Hamilton (AFC Bournemouth) along with Oxford United pair Michael Elechi and Aaron McCreadie.

The latter was lining up against his recent team-mates, having switched from his loan spell at Hayes & Yeading.

Scott Donnelly sent an audacious shot wide of Latham's post in the opening minute.

On 16 minutes Elechi crossed to the back post but the ball evaded all the other players on its way through.

The newcomer was then soon involved in defensive duties, blocking a cross to concede a corner.

Back at the other end, Lerone Plummer almost put Matt Paterson in but the home keeper got there first.

On the half-hour mark the hosts had two chances in quick succession but good Borough defence kept them out.

Gosport took the lead a minute before half-time, when Paterson directed his header down into the right-hand corner of the net.

The home side levelled matters eight minutes after the break when Jack Sheppard fired home from outside the box.

Immediately, Theo Lewis was sent on in place of Liam Robinson.

Then, on 63 minutes, Elechi picked out Charlie Davis whose shot was blocked.

Substitute Hamilton almost restored Borough's lead with a header just wide of the post.

Ryan Woodford saved Borough with a goal-line clearance 10 minutes from the end.

But the home side snatched a winner one minute into stoppage-time as Keano Robinson headed in a Donnelly free-kick.
