Past experience means Gosport Borough will not underestimate Dorchester Town

Lee Molyneaux wants nothing less than three points as Gosport Borough visit Southern League Premier South strugglers Dorchester Town.

The Dorset side, who are rock bottom, are looking certainties for relegation while Borough need maximum points to keep their slim play-off dream alive.

Molyneaux has warned, however, that his squad cannot afford to take anything for granted.

‘We have learned from experience that you cannot underestimate any team in this league,’ said Molyneaux.

‘If you do then you can so easily come unstuck.

‘Dorchester picked up their first win in five months last weekend with a 1-0 home success against Wimborne Town.

‘Hopefully, that can work in their favour because it might give them the confidence to come at us to win again.

‘If they do that then it might help us get in behind them.’

Gosport know what dangers Dorchester can present - they needed an injury-time leveller to force a 4-4 draw against the Magpies at Privett Park in early December.

‘We need to reproduce the same mindset shown in our 1-0 win at Beaconsfield last weekend,’ added the Borough boss.

‘In that game, we showed good resilience and also the ability to adapt.

‘We have learned that you can't win every game the same way.

‘The players exhibited a ‘win at all costs’ attitude and found a way to win the game.

‘In this league, you have to be able to think on your feet at times.

‘Teams are much more physical and there is a lot less football played than at the next level.

‘Finally, I think the experience in our team is starting to shine through.’

Defender Dan Strugnell returns to the squad after picking up a thigh injury.

Liam Robinson came through his substitute appearance at Beaconsfield without any reaction and is again in contention.

However, first choice goalkeeper Pat O'Flaherty is still a couple of weeks away from returning.
