Paulsgrove could postpone their scheduled Hampshire League Premier Senior Division trip to Winchester Castle this weekend as the club await an update on the condition of Josh Miroy.

The Grove youngster, 17, suffered a suspected heart attack while playing for AFC Portchester Reserves at the King George V Playing Fields in Cosham on Sunday.

Paulsgrove manager Wayne Grant admits his players' 'heads are not in the right place at the moment' to play a competitive fixture on the back of what has happened to their team-mate.

Josh's father, Alex, and best friend Aaron Fennemore, who is also the Paulsgrove captain, will definitely not be available for selection on Saturday.

And Grant feels it would be difficult to ask any of his squad to play with Josh remaining in a 'very poorly' state.

Paulsgrove, though, will leave any postponement decision 'as long as they can'.

‘We’ve got Winchester this weekend but we’re waiting on news of our young lad so we may have to pull the fixture on Saturday,' confirmed Grant.

‘A lot of my lads’ heads are not in the right place at the moment with everything that’s gone on with Josh.

‘A few of the lads have said that their heads are not on.

‘Obviously his dad is not going to be available, and Aaron won’t be available.

‘The thing is at Paulsgrove it is such a close-knit thing, it’s like a family.

‘We’re going to leave it until we hear an update from Aaron or Alex.

‘Our secretary is in contact with the league now and we’ll see what the latest is we could do it (postpone the fixture).

'We’ve spoken to Winchester Castle and put them on alert that it may happen.

‘Our thoughts are with Alex and the family - it’s just a waiting game really.'

Paulsgrove continued their 100 per cent start to the league campaign on Saturday - although that is likely to be the last thing on the minds of everyone involved with the club at present.

Efforts in the final 10 minutes from skipper Fennemore and substitute Reece Lewis saw Grant's side come from behind to run out 2-1 home victors over Colden Common.

The perfect start, winning each of their first three games, has impressed the Grove boss given the long lay-off faced because of the pandemic.

Grant added: 'We had a strong end to last season and hit the ground running in the first three games.

‘We didn’t play badly against Colden Common, we were just a little bit poor in the final third.

‘On another day it could have been four or five.

‘It’s a good start for us.

‘We’ll just keep putting points on the board.

'I think everything that’s gone on, no-one is at full steam yet. It’s going to take four or five weeks to get settled in.'
