The vast majority of the Blues’ travelling support remained in the ground to cheer and applaud the efforts of their side, despite the prospect of a fourth year in English football’s bottom tier.

And all in the face of provocation as Plymouth fans made their way to that part of the stadium to revel in their side’s progress to the League Two play-off final.

Peter Hartley’s stoppage-time winner earned the Pilgrims a 1-0 victory on the night and a 3-2 aggregate win to book their place at Wembley at the end of the month.

That sparked scenes of jubilation from the home fans, who ran on to the pitch to celebrate their side’s victory.

Police dogs and stewards were deployed to ensure they kept their distance from Pompey’s following.

However, to their credit, the Blues fans remained undeterred, instead focusing on their team as the players approached the away section to thank the Fratton faithful for their support all season.
