Pompey hopeful on Wallace fitness

The Blues’ leading scorer was sidelined for the midweek defeat at Stevenage with a hamstring injury.

The 21-year-old’s fitness will be assessed once more ahead of Saturday’s visit of high-flying Bury.

Regardless, the injuries continue to pile up for Pompey, with Ryan Taylor another recent casualty after picking up a groin problem against the Boro.

The pair have joined Jack Whatmough, Paul Robinson, Danny East, Josh Passley and Ben Chorley on the sidelines.

Although Michael Poke is now back with the first-team following his back injury, signalling the end of David Cornell’s loan spell from Swansea.

As for Wallace, who continues to interest Charlton, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday, it looks like he could return soon.

Caretaker boss Waddock said: ‘Jed will play again this season.

‘He wasn’t available against Stevenage, we will have a look at him later in the week and see if he is fit for this weekend.

‘It is not bad, there is fatigue, tiredness and tightness in there, so it wasn’t worth the risk.

‘I had a conversation with Jed on Monday and we both decided for him and the club it was best to give him an extra few days to get over that.

‘It wasn’t precautionary, he has got something there, but we wanted to make sure.

‘Josh Passley will not be available for Bury following his concussion, while Ben Chorley and Danny East are not back in training yet.

‘And David Cornell has gone back to Swansea now Pokey is fit.’

n The Pompey Programme Fair will take place on Sunday.

The popular twice-annual event is to form part of the club’s History Day designed to give fans a taste of the Blues’ wonderful heritage.

The actual programme fair will be running in the Victory Lounge from 11am-2pm and is open to all.

History Day will give supporters the chance to share their Pompey memories for a project called PompeyVoices.

To be launched online in May, it will become an accessible collection of fan memories, photos, video and memorabilia, as well as an official timeline of the club’s history.
