Pompey season tickets hit landmark

And that means the Blues are outstripping the rate at which they were sold 12 months ago.

The prospect of a fourth season in League Two has not lessened fans’ appetites to back Paul Cook’s bid to deliver promotion.

That has been seen by the flying rate at which fans are renewing their tickets.

Pompey have also been impressed at the number of first-time buyers purchasing tickets.

Season tickets went on sale at the start of the month after prices were once again frozen – for the fourth season.

The initial response was impressive with 1,000 bought on the first day – it took five days to hit that barrier last season.

Chief executive Mark Catlin lauded the ‘incredible’ effort from Pompey fans then – and there has been no let-up with a stream of sales continuing.

The first season of community ownership saw a total of 10,660 season tickets sold, despite Pompey falling into League Two.

That figure went up to 11,047 for the 2014-15 season – largely due to the optimism created from the five wins and two draws which kept Pompey in the league under Andy Awford the previous campaign.

Paul Cook’s arrival as manager again saw optimism flowing with the number of season tickets breaking the 11,000 mark.

And all the signs are pointing towards that figure being topped by the start of the new season.

That begins on August 7, with Pompey set to find out their opponents next Wednesday with the release of the Football League fixtures for the new campaign.
