This match is very important, three points are desperately needed to salvage the self-belief and keep the gap between ourselves and other play-off contenders realistic and achievable.

I was really disappointed with Tuesday’s result against Barnet. The games in hand are a perfect opportunity to close the gap within the play-offs and we are letting these opportunities pass us by.

I still believe promotion can achieved, but we need to improve our consistency and take more of our chances. Too many games we have been the better team without scoring the goals, therefore not getting the number of points we probably deserved.

After two away games we are now back at Fratton Park and the atmosphere could prove to be the deciding factor.

Negativity in the stands obviously makes an impression on the players.

The fans seem to have started to turn on the players, but it’s out of frustration at them not performing as we know they can do, having seen the results and performances earlier in the season.

We need to stay positive, keep the belief going and appreciate how much of a journey we have been on over the past few years.

With team selection, I would bring in Kal Naismith if Gary Roberts hasn’t recovered from the hamstring problem which forced him off against Barnet.

He could go on the left of the attacking three, with Kyle Bennett moved into the middle and Adam McGurk on the right.

I would also bring back Danny Hollands, who could be the solid experienced and reliable link in midfield we have been missing.

Let’s also put Christian Burgess in there following his ban, he forms a strong partnership with Webster.
