Andre Green celebrated his return to action and insisted: I’m excited to show the Pompey fans what I can do.

The Aston Villa loanee marked his first game back from injury with a maiden Blues goal during last night’s 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The winger cancelled out Phoenix Patterson’s first-half opener for Spurs by turning in a close-range effort from Christian Burgess’ header on 50 minutes.

Having underwent an operation to remove a cyst from his knee in September, Green admitted it was a bonus to score on his comeback – as regaining fitness levels was his main aim.

And after featuring just twice for Pompey before having surgery, the England under-20 international is certain there’s more to come from him.

Green said: ‘They all count. I was just thinking about getting my fitness against Spurs so to score was a bonus.

‘I found last night that I grew into the game.

‘My game plan was to just get the ball out wide, get past my man and cross the ball into the box.

‘It was about getting that confidence back that I have been lacking for the past few months.

‘I think I did that in spells. There was a lot more I could have done but it’s only my first game back.

‘Coming to Portsmouth, I knew there was going to be a bit of pressure on me.

‘That’s football, you need a bit of pressure on you and deal with that pressure.

‘I’m just excited to show the fans what I can do.’

Green was dogged by injuries last season and made just seven appearances for Villa.

The Solihull-born talent admitted he needs to find consistency in order to display his full capabilities.

And he insisted he knows how to mange his body better than previously.

‘A bit of consistency is what I need, I think, because it hasn’t been that consistent with me,’ added Green.

‘It’s been too often with me that I’ve been starting and stopping.

‘I’ve been learning my body well. I know my body a lot more and how to manage that stress.

‘Now I think I’m stronger and want to get them games in.’
