BRETT Pitman spoke of his delight at firing Pompey to the top of the table on his return to the side.

Pitman scored one and provided an assist for Jamal Lowe’s leveller as Kenny Jackett’s side picked up a 3-1 win at Rochdale.

The skipper knows the significance of that success against opposition he rates, as he made just his second league start of the campaign.

He said: ‘I want to start but the team has been doing well.

‘But it was nice to come into the side and get a goal.

‘I don’t think you can disrespect Rochdale.

‘They’re certainly better than an ugly side and play some nice football.

‘So we had to work hard for the win and we’re pleased to get it.’
