Danny Cowley insisted his manager of the month award is for Pompey fans after landing the accolade.

The Blues boss has taken the accolade for League One bosses for August, after his side’s flying start to the campaign.

But Cowley is adamant the recognition is a collective honour and zeroed in on the impact his side’s fervent support has contributed to Pompey’s success.

The 43-year-old is certain the manner in which the Fratton faithful have given unconditional backing to their side has aided them, particularly in moments when they’ve fallen behind in games.Cowley said: ‘It’s a team success to win any individual accolade.

‘It’s for the players who’ve performed consistently and allowed us a good way into the season.

‘It’s for the backroom staff who are the team behind the team, who’ve been so selfless in their work and put the players first.

‘And it’s obviously for our supporters as well who’ve impacted performances and as an outcome influenced the outcomes of games.

‘We accept the award on behalf of them.’

Cowley has made a concerted effort to unite supporters with the club this season and show fans they have a team in their own image.

The Pompey boss believes it’s important to continue using the energy created in and around the club so far moving forward.

He added: ‘When you come to a club you have to realise what your unique selling point is - we have an unbelievable support base.

‘They will pack Fratton Park, travel in their numbers and care so much for the club.

‘So we want to connect everyone and work together, because when we’re aligned and joined up in our thinking it’s really, really powerful.’
