But Kenny Jackett warned the keeper he’s not guaranteed regular minutes on loan at Dulwich Hamlet – and must earn his starting spot.

Turnbull moved to the National League South side on loan last month but has yet to make an appearance.

Hamlet’s past two games – against Maidstone and St Albans – were both postponed due to floodlight issues at their Champion Hill ground.

The London outfit travel to Hungerford Town today where Turnbull will be hoping to feature in his first competitive games on these shores.

The American keeper earned a one-year deal at Pompey in March after a successful trial period.

While he’s been on the bench on several occasions for the Blues this season, he’s firmly behind Craig MacGillivray and Alex Bass in the pecking order.

Having played collegiate soccer while at the University of Notre Dame, Turnbull now has his chance to cut his teeth in non-league football.

And Jackett believes it’s an opportunity the stopper badly needs.

The Pompey boss said: ‘Duncan needed to get out and play and he’s been unfortunate with the Covid situation after coming over here.

‘It has put the breaks on and the cogs haven’t been working as much in the football system.

‘Duncan has worked hard in training and this period now is where he can get some games in non-league.

‘He does need that badly, I think, after just coming into this country.

‘It’s a very good standard National League South. Hopefully, he can do a very good job for them.

‘I can’t pick the manager’s team but hopefully he is starting.’
