Deslandes joined Pompey as a left-back to provide competition for Dion Donohue and Brandon Haunstrup at the time.
However, he revealed he was at a stage when he was transitioning to becoming a centre-back – a position where he was behind Matt Clarke, Christian Burgess and Jack Whatmough in the Blues pecking order.
Nevertheless, the former France under-20 international, who now represents FC Arges in the Romanian second division, still enjoyed his time on the south coast.

‘He is basically the man who made me a professional, who made me discover the top level. I remember, he needed a left-back at Portsmouth.
‘So I went on loan there but I was, at the time, in a transitional phase towards my natural position, which is centre-back.
‘So my experience at Portsmouth didn’t really go as planned, as when I arrived I realised that this loan wasn’t the best thing for them nor for me, in terms of development.
‘But I learned a lot nonetheless.’
