Now – 24 years later – Lee Bradbury has been involved in another shock result over the Premier League side.

This time as Crawley’s assistant head coach.

On Sunday, the Reds yesterday claimed a remarkable 3-0 triumph over Leeds in the FA Cup’s third round.

There are 62 league places separating the sides, with John Yems’ men presently sixth in League Two.

Yet goals from Nick Tsaroulla, Ashley Nadesan and Jordan Tunnucliffe saw off Marcelo Bielsa’s men in style.

Back in February 1997, Bradbury was part of the Pompey side which won 3-2 at Elland Road to progress into the competition’s quarter-finals.

What’s more, it was his 86th-minute goal which sealed victory over George Graham’s top-flight team in a famous Blues FA Cup win.

With their regular penalty taker off the pitch, Fitzroy Simpson would assume responsibilities when they later had the opportunity to make it 2-0 from the spot, only for Nigel Martyn to save.

Lee Bowyer equalised early in the second half, yet Mathias Svensson and then Bradbury put the visitors 3-1 up by the 86th minute.

Ultimately Bradbury’s close-range finish would prove the decisive goal, although he didn’t join in with his team-mates’ post-match conga.

Instead, he had returned to the dressing room in a mood following an on-pitch disagreement with Paul Hall during the game.

However, there was no second Premier League scalp in the quarter-finals, with Chelsea securing a 4-1 win at Fratton Park.
