FA Cup heroics, Crystal Palace comeback, derby success over Southampton, survival at Wigan and many more!- Harry Redknapp's greatest Portsmouth triumphs as ex-boss reaches 20 years from first match in charge
Today marks 20 years since Harry Redknapp took charge of Pompey for the first time.
Promotion to the Premier League, consecutive top-nine finishes, an FA Cup triumph, and a first European campaign were all achieved under his stewardship – across two spells.
Sulley Muntari proved his unquestionable quality with two screamers at Villa Park in another impressive away win. The victory ended a 52-wait for an away win against the Villans as the midfielder's brace followed Pamarot's opener. Picture: Allan Hutchings Photo: Allan Hutchings
Few would have envied Pompey's FA Cup quarter- trip to a treble-chasing Manchester United. However, after weathering a Red Devils storm for the majority of the match, the Blues pounced and took their chance after Milan Baros was fouled by Tomasz Kuszczak inside the box. Muntari stepped up and swept the penalty past a despairing Rio Ferdinand, to book Redknapp''s side's place in the semi-final at Wembley. Picture: Nick Potts Photo: Nick Potts
The perfect ending to Redknapp's final full season in charge, as he guided Pompey to FA Cup glory. Kanu's first-half strike was enough to edge their Championship opposition and hand the Blues the trophy for the first time since 1939. For the Fratton chief it was a personal triumph as it was his first, and last, major honour in his managerial career. Picture: Mike Egerton Photo: Mike Egerton
