The former Lincoln and Huddersfield boss paid the Blues the ultimate compliment as he appeared as a pundit on EFL on Quest on Saturday night.

He was impressed with Pompey’s 1-0 win at Fleetwood as they consolidated their third-place position in the table and closed the gap on the top-two – with his former club at Sincil Bank leading the way, followed by Hull.

And when asked if they could go all the way this season, his answer was quite emphatic.

He told present Michelle Owen: 'I think so. Obviously, my heart’s with Lincoln, but I see Portsmouth as the most rounded team in the division, the most powerful team in the division, and yeah I expect them to get promoted.’

His fellow guest on the show, Ali Maxwell, was just as complimentary towards the Blues.

Despite not featuring in the league since December 18, the Not The Top 20 Pod presenter hailed Pompey’s consistency and admitted things were ‘looking really good’ for the Fratton Park outfit.

He said: ‘They've picked up where they left off. That's four wins in five, the other was a draw, they haven't conceded in that time and all of those five games were against other teams in the top half.

'Now, those results will get you where you want to be.

'They're just so consistent now. They good at both ends of the pitch.

'It is looking really good for them at the moment.’

The Blues are next in action on Tuesday night when they play host to AFC Wimbledon (7pm).
