Fratton favourite Pedro Mendes reveals the best Portsmouth player he lined-up alongside
Answering a Portsmouth FC Twitter Q&A from questions submitted by Blues supporters this afternoon, the popular midfielder named Kanu as the best player during his time with the Blues.
The pair occupied the same Fratton Park dressing room for two seasons, winning the 2008 FA Cup together – and Mendes chose Kanu ahead of the likes of Lassana Diarra, Sol Campbell, Niko Kranjcar, David James and Sylvain Distin.

He told @Pompey: ‘For the best Pompey player, I had the luck to play alongside some very, very good players, but I have to choose Kanu.
‘Kanu was incredible, technically he was amazing.
‘My favourite goal has to be the second one against Man City, not because of the goal, which was a great goal, but more important was what that goal meant to us and what we achieved after that moment.
‘The game was a must-win for us and, at that moment, nothing goes through your mind, just focus on the game, you have a job to do.

‘During the game you don’t think a lot, just focus on what you want to do.
‘My favourite (Pompey) kit was a white Canterbury kit which we played in one or twice at the end of the season.
‘It was a really, really nice kit, it was a shame that we didn’t play more in that kit.

‘The best part of playing at Fratton Park was the environment and the fans. The fans were 10 out of 10.’
Mendes made 68 appearances and scored five times before departing for Rangers in a £3m deal in August 2008.
