What’s your assessment of that?

I expected the win, but not for us to win in that manner

We know they are a team that have quite a lot of the ball, but their position suggests they don’t do much with it. There’s no end product.

Kenny sussed it out with how we lined up, he let them play, which was quite clever.

You have to say he got it right, even if nobody thought we would have 29 per cent possession and concede 13 corners at home.

MK Dons had 71 per cent possession, but we still won the game – so that tells you we defended well.

What did you make of the half-time system switch?

Rasmus Nicolaisen looked a lot more stable and calm than Sean Raggett when he came on. I thought it was going to be a straight swap and was surprised it was actually Ronan Curtis who came off, with the team going to a back three.

At the time I saw it as a negative. I thought we would push on and get a third, although Curtis didn’t play that well.

But, having said that, the manager’s decision worked.

However, I’m not sure that will be the case against contenders such as Hull or Peterborough.

You gave Tom Naylor man of the match.

Yes. After his display at Burton last weekend, he made amends with a good performance – and got us off to a good scoring start.

Naylor had one of his better games, breaking up, intercepting, it was a typical battling showing we know he can produce.

MK Dons had so much possession that we spent the vast majority of the game on the back foot. When that happens, you need a Naylor type of player.

I wasn't impressed with his body language last week, he shrugged his shoulders after those own goals, but he was very good on Saturday.

What are Pompey’s promotion chances this season?

I think it's a hard league this year, there are better teams now. To finish in the top six is a big ask for us.

We will be there or thereabouts on paper, but it’s a tough one to get into the top six.

This league is unpredictable, there are no fans, which will have a bearing. Our supporters, in particular, can swing us a result at home.

I’m not sure whether we can make the top six. I suppose you never know, do you.
