What do you make of that Pompey performance?

It was good to bounce back from the last few games. We looked back to a confident side who know how to win that kind of match.

The 3-1 scoreline was fully deserved. We were solid defensively, which is a positive after Hull and Lincoln, and in attack caused problems and created a lot of chances.

However, I would point out that this is not the same Charlton team we played in October, losing 2-0.

Johnny Williams, who should not be in this league, has since joined Cardifff and Conor Washington wasn’t available.

Still, we were back to levels before the Hull and Lincoln games. Hopefully that was a blip.

Who’s your man of the match?

I thought John Marquis was excellent. It was probably his most involved for week, certainly helped by having Ellis Harrison on the pitch.

Marquis created a lot, moved into positions which would create opportunities to be scored from, and put everything into it.

I can forgive him missing chances on a night he did so much for others. Sometimes a striker’s job is more than just scoring.

Last season Marquis was a bit up and down, but this year he looks so much better, whether alongside Ryan Williams, Marcus Harness or Ellis Harrison.

You also gave Andy Cannon a high mark.

I was actually surprised to see him start after Lincoln, I thought he was quite lethargic in that match and expected George Byers to be given a chance.

However, he was back to his best at Charlton. Energetic, positive with his passing, and scored a really good goal, although he should get more.

Cannon has to be up there in discussions for the player of the season, he has given a completely different dimension to the midfield since coming in.

For me, he is up there with Tom Naylor and Jack Whatmough, with Ryan Williams behind them.

So will this be a promotion season?

At the start of the season, I put £20 on Lincoln to get promoted at 28-1.

The main reason was Callum Morton arriving on loan from West Brom, having helped Northampton get promoted last season. But he’s only featured in two league games!

Still, I fully expect Lincoln to do it – along with us.

Looking at Hull, they have the best quality in the league by far, but their consistency is not what you would expect from a side which gets promoted.

I am also encouraged we have now played the best two sides in the league home and away, so they are done.

Also we can now take Charlton out of it. I believe we have a slightly easier run-in than others.
