How Pompey boss Kenny Jackett plans to deal with free-scoring Peterborough’s attacking might

The Blues boss is adamant his side can go to London Road on Saturday and offer their own forward-thinking threat against the division’s top scorers.

Darren Ferguson’s side have piled up 66 league goals this term and 80 in all competitions, including eight efforts in their past two home games.

Peterborough possess pace to burn in attacking areas and that is something Jackett’s acutely aware of going into the game.

Stemming their flow of goals is the challenge which lies in wait for Pompey, but their manager feels sitting back will not be the way to do so.

Jackett said: ‘It does (Peterborough’s pace plays into his thinking over selection).

‘But in trying to hold them, which we have to if we’re to be successful, we have to go there and give them problems.

‘We have to worry about our own game and try to score ourselves. I do think that’s the key to it.

‘We can’t concentrate too much on defending.

‘We will need a defensive display, but you need an all-round display to go to Peterborough and win.

‘I’m confident we can go there and pose them one or two problems, rather than just containing what is a very potent attack.’

Ivan Toney is the man who’s been getting headlines this term and already has 25 goals to his name this term.

But former Pompey target Mo Eisa has also bagged 16 goals with Peterborough also possessing the talent of the likes of Siriki Dembele and January arrival Sammie Szmodics.

Jackett added: ‘The way that they’ve played, attacked and tweaked it with Szmodics coming in gives them good options up front to go with Toney.

‘We know, in terms of how they play, they’ve got a lot and have a lot of goalscoring potential.’
