But The News understands the Blues aren’t looking to advance their interest in the Notts County front man at present.

Danny Cowley has been linked with the 25-year-old after a goal-laden start to the campaign, which has seen him smash in an outstanding 15 goals to date.

That has alerted a number of clubs to the striker’s talent, with the likes of Millwall, Reading, Barnsley, Peterborough and Plymouth all said to be keen.

It’s understood Langstaff has been on Cowley’s radar before this season, with the Blues tracking his progress at National League North side Gateshead.

The right-footed front man grabbed 32 goals and 14 assists at that level last term, as his side lifted the title.

That prompted his summer move to Meadow Lane on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, where the Stockton-on-Tees talent has built on his impressive goal form.

Pompey’s recruitment staff have watched Langstaff’s journey closely, as they look to employ a recruitment policy of bringing in young players on the rise.

The view is believed to be the leap from National League to League One level may be too big a gap for Langstaff to bridge at present.

That would especially be a consideration with his market value on the rise amid such interest and his run of goals.

That, in all likelihood, would mean a financial outlay of the level which would normally be reserved for a regular first-team player in the third tier, to secure Langstaff's services.

Cowley today spoke of his desire to recruit in the striker department moving forward, with Colby Bishop their only senior player who belongs to Pompey permanently.
