Nick Tunney, from the Bucks Free Press, gives the lowdown on Wycombe’s season so far….

It’s been an up-and-down season for Wycombe and they’re on a wretched run, having not won in 10 games.

But they have been playing a lot better than results suggest.

Oxford grabbed a last-minute winner last weekend and they should have got at least a point there.

Shrewsbury scored two goals in the last few minutes and Wanderers lost that game, while Sunderland scored a last-minute equaliser at home – Wycombe were by far the better team.

The performances are there but conceding late goals have been so costly. They’ve taken the lead in the past four games but have only got a point to show for it.

I think they should survive relegation. They’re playing well enough to get the results.

Oxford’s goal was a wonder strike from their left-back. When the luck isn’t with you then that can happen.

Wycombe are defending quite well and not conceding many shots, although they are giving away too many penalties.

Their record at home against the top teams is excellent.

They should have defeated Sunderland and Luton but drew with both, while they’ve beat Barnsley and Peterborough.

The only side Wanderers have lost to in the top half at Adams Park is Coventry.

They just seem to rise to the occasion.

Sunderland manager Jack Ross said Wycombe are one of the best teams they’ve played this season.

Unfortunately, Wycombe lost a few players in January.

Bryn Morris, who’s obviously now at Pompey, is technically very gifted.

Fred Onyedinma is also such a good player and he’s been a big loss since returning to Millwall.

They haven’t really replaced him sufficiently as he was outstanding – Wycombe would have a few points more now with him in the side.

Randell Williams also moved to Exeter and has been a great signing for them.

As you can see from the results, those loses have hurt Wanderers.

In recent games, Nick Freeman has been excellent.

He wasn’t really used when Onyedinma was in the team but has really stepped up in the past few weeks.

Freeman is two-footed, works hard off the ball and has a bit of x-factor about him.

Alex Samuel has also done really well and makes life so difficult for defenders.

For a slight guy, he holds the ball up well, is quick and a real terrier up front.

He will give Matt Clarke and Christian Burgess some difficulty.

Adebayo Akinfenwa played last week at Oxford United and is also a threat.
