While the midfielder's been with the Premier League giants since he was a youngster, it still hasn’t stopped Blues fans from thinking ‘what if he'd picked his boyhood club instead?’

Although it's unlikely we'll ever witness Mount don the star and crescent in real life, we could get a glimpse of how he would look wearing Pompey colours – thanks to David James.

Pompey's 2008 FA Cup-winning goalkeeper has proven he’s a dab hand with the paintbrush since hanging up his gloves.

The ex-Liverpool stopper often shows off his work on his Instagram account and has sold several paintings to raise money for charity.

Now James' next piece of work could see him portray Mount in a Pompey strip after he scored from the penalty spot in Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Southampton on Saturday.

James wrote on Twitter: ‘I'm thinking about my next painting, @masonmount_10 in a @Pompey kit.... #PUP.’

And the former Purbrook Park Pupil savoured the moment of scoring at St Mary's once again.

He told Chelsea's website: ‘The manager said it should be whoever feels confident on the pitch so I just stepped up.

‘I missed my last one at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup so I wanted to make it right and I was confident in scoring as well.

‘I’ve said before that it does mean a little bit more to me (to score against Southampton) and I scored here last season as well so it’s a nice ground for me to play at but the most important thing is to get the three points and we didn’t manage to do that so it’s obviously a disappointment.’
