The Pompey midfielder hasn’t made a single appearance this season, having been troubled by an abdomen complaint.

He underwent surgery in Germany last October, although that proved unsuccessful.

Morris has subsequently undertaken a gruelling rehabilitation programme set by a Harley Street abdominal specialist.

It’s been paying dividends and the former England youth captain returned to working with a football earlier this month.

Now it’s time to step up his comeback and he will be reintegrated with his Blues team-mates.

If that all goes well, then Kenny Jackett is hoping to organise a reserve game for Morris in a bid to edge him closer to first-team availability.

The Pompey boss said: ‘Bryn should be back training this week, I would think.

‘He’s on the grass and has been doing everything. He looks fit, to be honest, and is very close to full training.

‘Maybe we’ll have to arrange a game for him to see if the injury is okay, but I think he’ll get back to fitness pretty quickly.

‘It’ll be a reserve game or in-house.’

Morris has scored one goal in eight appearances since arriving at Fratton Park from Shrewsbury for an undisclosed fee in January 2019.
