New Portsmouth book out in shops as popular series on Fratton Park favourites continues

Played Up Pompey Three contains fresh interviews with 23 players whose immense contributions have left an indelible mark on a truly special football club.

It is the successor to Played Up Pompey (2015) and Played Up Pompey Too (2017) and is once again written by The News’ chief sports writer Neil Allen.

In their own candid and often emotional words, Played Up Pompey Three explores the Blues careers of players whose outstanding performances between 1954 and 2017 established them as household names and folk heroes among the Fratton faithful.

They include Niko Kranjcar, Mick Tait, Michael Doyle, Darren Anderton, John Durnin, Chris Kamara, Gary O’Neil, Kenny Swain, Benjani Mwaruwari, Shaka Hislop, Lee Bradbury, Richard Hughes, Dave Munks, Gary Roberts, Dave Dodson, Warren Neill, Kevin O’Callaghan, Tommy McGhee, Martin Kuhl, George Ley, Johnny Ertl, Ben Davies and Sammy Igoe.

While long-serving kitman Kev McCormack, now in his 21st year with the club, has written the foreword.

In total, the book carries interviews with five different recipients of The News/Sports Mail Player of the Season, two Pompey Hall of Fame inductees, two FA Cup winners and 10 promotion heroes.
