No deadline-day striker arrival amid interest in Wolves' Niall Ennis - but Portsmouth comfortable with options

Kenny Jackett is comfortable with having just two recognised strikers after Pompey failed to make a deadline-day signing.

It proved a quiet final day of the summer transfer window at Fratton Park, with no incomings or outgoings taking place.

Jackett was also looking at bringing in an additional forward to offer competition to Ellis Harrison and John Marquis.

It means that Harrison and Marquis are Pompey's only senior number nines until the January window opens.

And Jackett feels the ex-Port Vale man's future could lie up front rather than out wide.

Meanwhile, the Pompey boss reckons Ronan Curtis could also do a job leading the line if required, while Reeco Hackett-Fairchild can also be recalled from his loan spell at Bromley from Monday.

Jackett said: ‘I think that we have players that can play up there.

‘Marcus can play up there. I don't think that he can play as a lone striker but he can play in a two.

‘A big strength of Marcus' game is that he can score, which is great for a forward.

‘He is an adaptable player and may just develop as a forward anyway. That may be his strength and his position.

‘If you put him up there in a two then he can score.

‘Also, Ronan Curtis can play up there while Reeco Hackett-Fairchild can play up there so they are out options.’

Young striker Alfie Stanley is currently on loan at Bognor.
