Oxford striker avoids charge after being photographed grabbing Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis' genitals

Oxford striker Matty Taylor has avoided being charged by the FA for grabbing Ronan Curtis by the genitals.

The incident occurred during the melee at the full-time whistle of Pompey's 1-1 draw with the U's at Fratton Park last week.

Curtis and Oxford defender John Mousinho were booked, while several other players were involved.

The former Bristol Rovers forward could have been slapped with a ban, after Preston's Darnell Fisher was hit with a three-match suspension for a similar incident on Sheffield Wednesday’s Callum Paterson.

Oxford boss Karl Robinson revealed his club was contacted by the FA to explain what happened.

And after the Kassam Stadium outfit showed the video footage of the fracas to officials, the Liverpudlian said they were satisfied Taylor’s part was unintentional.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: ‘They were happy with our statement and they were content that our story backed up the video footage.

‘A picture can sometimes really make things look an awful lot worse than they actually are.

‘Matty’s gone to grab him as he’s turned around and grabbed just above the groin area.’
