Pompey recap: Portsmouth pledge no knee-jerk reaction after failed promotion bid while striker set to depart

The Blues suffered a penalty shootout defeat at the Kassam Stadium, following a 2-2 draw after extra-time over the two legs.

It meant Kenny Jackett’s side’s promotion bid came to an end at the exact same stage as the previous campaign.

As a result, Pompey now prepare for a fourth consecutive season in the third tier, with Oxford to face Wycombe in the play-off final at Wembley next week.

What’s more, sections of the Fratton faithful have questioned whether Jackett's the right man to take the Blues forward, after again failing to get the club into the Championship.

The boss has still have the hunger to get Pompey back into the second tier, though, outlining his ambition when speaking to the press after the Oxford loss.
