So many, in fact, that we’ve managed to put together an entire team that could potentially line up for the Blues next season.

5. Left-back - Harry Toffolo
Danny Cowley has previosuly signed the left-back twice in his managerial career at Lincoln and Huddersfield. Toffolo is a regular and key player for the Terriers, though, and would be more likely to move up the Championship rather than dropping back down to League One.

6. Central midfield - Brandon Wilson
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder is apparently poised to leave Australian A League side Perth Glory, after turning down offers of a new contract. The Australia under-23 international is supposedly ready to return to England after previously being in the youth ranks at Burnley. Although born in Botswana, Wilson has a British passport. If he decides to return to Blighty, he does have options, with Burton and Crewe also reportedly keen.

7. Central midfield - Harvey White
Danny Cowley has admitted he's taken steps for the Spurs loanee to return to Fratton Park next season after spending the second half of last term at the Blues. The England youth international showed glimpses of his potential and would likely benefit with a full pre-season with the Cowleys.

8. Attacking- midfield - Scott Twine
The goalscoring midfielder is firmly on Pompey's radar. Twine has turned down fresh terms at Swindon after their relegation from League One and is seeking his next move. The highly-rated 21-year-old won't be short of suitors as a free agent but the Blues are hoping to win the race. Someone who's proven in the third tier and would have a resale value.
