The Australian is set to have a fitness test on Monday which will decide if he will be available for Tuesday’s meeting with his former side Oxford United.

Williams had a hip issue he felt in the warm-up against Plymouth on Monday, and eventually forced him off at Home Park.

That meant he missed today’s fine 4-1 win over Crewe, as Pompey moved up to fourth in League One

The winger has been in fine form for Pompey late, and Jackett is upbeat he’ll soon be in a position to continue his decent level of performance.

He said: ‘Ryan has a hip problem which he felt in the warm-up at Plymouth.

‘He felt it with the last kick of the warm-up on Monday.

‘He felt it yesterday when having a fitness test, so we took the decision for him not to play.

‘There will be a fitness test on Monday and he will decide then if he’s ready to give it a go.

‘He’s been a very good player for us, so we want him back as soon as possible.’
