It’s a well-known fact the Blues have never won a game in what so many people describe as football's equivalent of a lottery.

In six games, Pompey have fallen short on each occasion.

The Fratton Park boss is also looking to guide a team to play-off glory for only the second time of his managerial career.

In four attempts, Jackett’s steered the side he’s been in charge of to promotion via Wembley on a solitary occasion.

The first time the 58-year-old was involved in the play-offs was at Swansea in the 2005-06 campaign.

After guiding the south Wales outfit out of League Two automatically the previous season, they finished seventh in the third tier.

Having led the table at the turn of the year, the Swans could only finish sixth to snatch the final play-off spot.

Swansea beat Bradford 3-2 in the semi-finals but lost to Barnsley in the final on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra-time.

Jackett's next involvement in the play-offs were three years later at Milwall.

The Lions finished fifth in League One and faced Leeds in the semi-finals.

Both games proved tight, with Milwall clinching a 1-0 win at the Den before picking up a 1-1 draw at Elland Road to advance to the final.

There was more Wembley misery for Jackett, though, with the Lions suffering a 3-2 loss to Scunthorpe.

Finally, a year later, the former Watford player would be toasting play-off victory when Millwall did go up to the Championship.

Following a third-place finish, the Londoners defeated Huddersfield in the semi-finals before edging a 1-0 success against Swindon at the national stadium.

The Fratton faithful don’t exactly need reminding how last campaign’s play-offs went for Pompey.

It was a meek 1-0 defeat to Sunderland over two legs, with ex-loanee Chris Maguire’s strike at the Stadium of Light proving the difference.

Jackett’s Oxford counterpart Karl Robinson also has experienced the play-offs – yet he’s never been successful.

During his time at the MK Dons helm, the Liverpudlian twice fell short in the four-team tournament.

In 2011, following a fifth-place finish, the Dons were defeated by Peterborough in the semi-finals.

Robinson’s side again entered the play-offs 12 months later but again failed to reach Wembley as they lost 2-0 to Huddersfield.
