Should Joe Morrell be selected for Wales’ squad, he will miss at last four Pompey matches – thereby warranting compensation.

It is understood those clubs impacted by call-ups are to receive $10,000 in respect of every day their player is away on international duty.

This includes preparation and build-up to the Qatar event, as well as time away playing in the actual tournament.

At this moment in time, it is estimated Pompey could receive in the region of £250,000 in recognition of losing Morrell for 18-20 days – at the very minimum.

The Dragons’ final Group B match is against England on November 29 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.

The group’s top-two teams then qualify for the final 16 knock-out stages, which commence on December 3 and 4, potentially extending Morrell’s absence by 4-5 days.

Meanwhile, the tournament is scheduled to finish on December 18.

Morrell is waiting to discover whether he is included in Wales 26-man squad, with lists to be submitted by November 13.
