Portsmouth have lost interest in Brandon Hanlan - Gillingham boss Steve Evans

Kenny Jackett has targeted the free agent to bolster his striking options, with just John Marquis and Ellis Harrison on the Blues’ books.

Evans admits Pompey’s boss had previously contacted him about Hanlan, who netted seven times in 40 appearances last season.

However, the Scot hasn’t heard anything since – and now doesn’t expect Hanlan to move to Fratton Park.

Instead another League One club have shown interest, with a bid described as ‘insulting’.

While Gillingham also haven’t given up hope of the former Charlton man signing a new contract which remains on the table.

Evans told KentOnline: ‘I don’t think Portsmouth are interested any more. They certainly haven’t registered any further interest in him.

‘One initial conversation between myself and Kenny Jackett, which was very polite, professional, dignified, but that has not been followed up on.

‘We have received, as of yesterday, another bid from another League One club for Brandon.

‘I could use one word to describe it – insulting. But that is not my business, it belongs with the chairman.

‘We want Brandon to stay but it doesn’t matter if you are Brandon Hanlan or Messi at Barcelona. If you don’t want to be there there’s one answer – you shouldn't be there.’
