The attacking midfielder joined the Blues on a free transfer last week, having departed the Latics following their relegation to League One.

Jacobs came off the bench in last Sunday's goalless draw at Rochdale.

But after almost a fortnight of training with his new team, the ex-Wolves man could be thrown into Kenny Jackett's line-up as Pompey aim for a first league win of the season.

With Gareth Evans set to depart, Jacobs is battling Andy Cannon for a place from the outset after he started at Spotland in the number-10 role.

FC Midtjylland loanee Rasmus Nicolaisen is likely to be on the bench for his first Blues match rather than be chucked into the starting XI.

Centre-back pairing Jack Whatmough and Sean Raggett have kept two clean sheets in as many games, meaning Nicolaisen will have to be patient and wait for his chance.

Another selection decision Jackett could be pondering is to bring in Ben Close for Bryn Morris in central midfield.

Close has been out of favour so far this term but Morris has yet to sparkle in the engine room next to Tom Naylor.

Meanwhile, former Pompey favourite Gary Roberts won't be in action at Fratton Park.

The 2017 League Two title winner suffered a hamstring injury in Wigan's 3-2 loss to Gillingham last weekend and is expected to be sidelined for more than a month..

However, another member of Paul Cook's squad that claimed the fourth-tier crown, Kal Naismith, will start in his first game back at PO4 since leaving two years ago.

Ex-loanee Viv Solomon-Otabor is also expected to feature on the flank while one-time target Gavin Massey is in contention to be involved after returning from a setback.
