Stan Bridgman has moved to Finland to take the next step in his football education after departing Pompey.

The promising midfielder has agreed a move to Pallo-lirot after his summer release following his scholarship coming to a close.

The former Purbrook Park School student will link up with former Blues academy coach Scott Green who joined the outfit last year.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett thinks it will be a good move for the 18-year-old.

He said: ‘Stanley’s left here at the end of his contract.

‘But Scott has kept a close eye on things since he worked here and will always try to help someone and take them out if he can.

‘It will be good for Stan to play out there in what is effectively a summer football season.

‘They started pre-season in February but have started their season now, so good luck to him.’

Pallo-lirot play in the Finnish second division - or Kakkonen - with former academy youngsters Oscar Johnston and James Whiting moving to the club last year. They were followed by Joe Dandy in January.

Announcing Bridgman’s arrival, Green told the Pallo-lirot website: Stanley is a strong and fast player. He has an eye for scoring goals and is technically proficient. Also good in the air and has a great defensive attitude.

‘He also has the good side of being able to play in many venues. We will play the role of an offensive midfielder. (He’s a) very good confirmation for our team.’

Pompey have given third-year scholarships to Alfie Stanley, Harry Kavanagh and Eoin Teggart. Meanwhile, Joe Hancott, Tom Bruce and Leon Pitman will also return to the scheme after being removed while they recovered from injuries.
