Ryan Williams: Camaraderie makes Portsmouth a joy to play for - and Peterborough was season-best display

And he has pinpointed the team’s camaraderie as the driving force.

The Blues claimed a thoroughly-deserved 2-0 victory over their promotion rivals this afternoon, through second-half goals from Jack Whatmough and Tom Naylor.

With 2,000 supporters also let into Fratton Park to witness a superb performance, it represented a memorable outcome.

And Williams is convinced those present witnessed a season’s best from the Blues.

He told The News: ‘I would say it was the best display of the campaign.

‘Probably up there would be Sunderland, but the first 15-20 minutes in the second half of that game was difficult for us and we managed to weather the storm there.

‘Peterborough has been the best, though. Definitely.

‘Everyone came out with a real determination. It starts from the front and people can see John’s sprinting and I’m sprinting and Andy’s sprinting and Ronan’s sprinting – and it gives everyone a lift.

‘We have a bit more camaraderie to be fair, there’s less players and we’ve been together for a season now, some people have been here for 2-3 seasons, so it’s quite a tight-knit group.

‘It’s a smaller squad and everyone has had to take on more responsibility. It is so enjoyable to be in this team.

‘Considering the last few results against Peterborough, I know in my mind I wanted to get back at them and we harassed them.

‘When we had the ball, we made the ball work and made the passes count, which is maybe something we didn’t do last season.

‘Now we are taking our time in playing that extra pass – and there is great confidence at the moment.’
