The Blues have turned to the former Coventry front man in an attempt to bolster their attacking options, with the free agent to travel to Sunderland today with the rest of the Pompey squad ahead of Saturday’s game at the Stadium of Light.

The 26-year-old will compete with both John Marquis and Ellis Harrison in the forward department – although the latter is currently out with a hamstring injury.

Hiwula scored 17 goals in 61 appearances for Coventry and was part of the Sky Blues squad that got promoted to the Championship last season.

Some Blues supporters have questioned the signing – but the majority believes the former Manchester City trainee, who will be at Fratton Park until at least January, will be a welcome addition to the squad.

Here's a selection of views shared by Blues supporters on Twitter and Facebook.

@martinrdaniels: Smart move, has the pace, trickery and one touch finishing our front two don't have.

@rik_may: That is some signing for me. Wow, fair play.

Gary Hills: He played very well against us at FP last season so could be a good signing.

@Niall_Judge26: Surprised they’ve done this given Harrison apparently only out for another couple weeks.

Maybe another indication he’s leaning more towards two up top.

Steve Mac: Can he play as a lone striker at just 5ft 10”?

If he plays in a 2 up top then his goal per game ratio ain’t good.

Seems a desperate gamble - should’ve been in the ‘proper’ market for another striker even with Harrison fully fit

Weird times these.

Ray Pompey Robbins: Good player caused us problems when we played Coventry City.

@Mickcutler2: He caused us no end of problems a couple of years ago.

@Rod15566392: I've been hoping we sign him. Was good at Coventry when I saw him against us.

@neilcooper458: Good addition gives us more options happy with that.

@pfczak: If we get him firing, it will be a decent signing.

@originalfrostie: got to ask yourself why he's still available on a free 2 month's after the season has started.

Shawn Woodward: Hope Jackett uses him right then and not on his own but once Harrison is fit where will that leave him?
