Now Miles Storey will be bidding to finish on the right side of an FA Cup upset as he targets a Hereford victory.

In November 2014, Andy Awford’s mid-table League Two team headed to Aldershot for a first-round replay following a 2-2 Fratton Park draw.

The outcome was a cup shock, with Mark Molesley netting nine minutes from time to settle the match 1-0 in the Shots’ favour.

Although previously a non-league side, claiming the Southern League championship, Pompey won election to the Football League’s Third Division in 1920.

To date, Aldershot represents their sole competitive loss to a non-league club while members of the Football League.

Now Danny Cowley’s men head to Hereford – where they will encounter former loanee Storey.

As a 20-year-old, Storey arrived at Fratton Park in July 2014 on loan from League One outfit Swindon.

A pacy attacker capable of playing wide, the Robins had high hopes for their home-grown product and England under-19 international.

The dropping down of a league to join Pompey was designed to aid his development, yet it turned out to be a frustrating time for the youngster.

Of his 22 appearances, nine came off the bench, while he netted three times, including in his first game at Fratton Park, against Peterborough in the Capital One Cup.

Following two goals in three matches, Storey retained his place for an FA Cup fixture against Aldershot in November 2014, with the outcome a 2-2 draw.

Awford dropped him for the replay, instead bringing in Ryan Taylor up front, and the outcome was another Pompey low amid some awful years.

The 5,374 in attendance at the Recreation Ground and watching television audience witnessed the 2010 FA Cup finalists dumped out by Andy Scott’s team just four years later.

Storey came on for the final eight minutes – and would play just three more times for the Blues before sent back to Swindon in January 2015.

He finished the season at Newport County, with two goals in 18 appearances, and sadly his Swindon career petered out.

The attacker would spend six years in Scotland, representing Inverness (twice), Aberdeen and Partick, before linking up with Hereford in June 2021.

Now aged 28, Storey is in the frame to face Cowley’s men at Edgar Street, seeking to claim another piece of Pompey history, albeit from the other side.
