The midfielder is now over his abdomen injury that has confined him to the treatment table for the entire campaign.

Morris underwent a 12-week strengthening programme to ensure he was durable when introduced back into full training earlier this year.

He marked his return to match action for the reserves against the Royal Navy at HMS Temeraire in March, which ended in a 3-1 defeat for the Blues.

The former England youth captain had also been catching the eye of Jackett at the club's Hilsea training base before the suspension of the season.

Morris has been restricted to just one goal in eight appearances since arriving for an undisclosed fee from Shrewsbury in January 2019.

He’s a player held in high regard, though, and Jackett believes the Fratton faithful will see the best of Morris if he’s able to avoid injury.

The Pompey boss said: ‘You have to persevere and if you’re good enough and determined enough then you will get there.

‘For Bryn, there has always been a player there. It’s just about him keeping fit and staying fit.

‘I’ve got confidence now he will stay fit and put the injuries behind him.

‘He's got a pedigree playing for England youth teams and even before that.

‘Since he came back training, he looked very fit physically. In the football work when he was around, he did well.

‘There is no doubt that the potential is there if we can keep him fit and he can stay fit – which I have confidence is going to happen now.’

The hiatus of the campaign means Pompey will undergo a pre-season programme to prepare them for the resumption of their League One promotion push.

With the Blues not playing a game for almost six weeks, Jackett’s troops will return to training on an even keel.

And that will bolster Morris’ chances of becoming a regular starter.

Jackett added: ‘It will help him. He's a very fit lad anyway and any training he does anyway, he's normally right up there.

‘It does wipe the slate because nobody would have played for a month or two months by the time we do play again.

‘It does bring them onto an even keel and people won’t have match fitness over those who hadn't been playing.’
