And the boss is hoping the Blues’ heavily-congested fixture programme before football was suspended will prove advantageous in their quest for League One promotion.

A letter written to all 71 clubs by chairman Rick Parry outlined the EFL's plans to finish the campaign within a 56-day period amid the coronavirus crisis.

That time frame includes the play-offs, meaning sides will have a busy Saturday-Tuesday programme to adhere to upon the resumption of games.

Pompey have already had a hectic 2019-20 season due to reaching the Leasing.com Trophy final, the FA Cup fifth round and Carabao Cup third round.

As things stand, the Blues are heading towards a 60-game term – which will increase should they qualify for the League One play-offs.

But having competed in 62 matches last season, coupled with his side already knowing what it takes to consistently play twice a week, Jackett believes his troops can handle the challenge.

He said: ‘The powers that be are looking at every scenario and, yes, I do think the season can be completed in that time.

‘I don’t think any situation is necessarily going to be perfect now.

‘If you’re looking at our games programme in the past two years, we played 62 last season and are heading for a guaranteed 60-game season this time.

‘If we qualify for the play-offs, obviously there will be more then.

‘Put that into a 24-month period and that is heavy, but we know that we can do it.

'We understand that people are tired sometimes but that is not to say we can’t do it.

‘I hope that it works in our advantage, although I don't know if it will be or not.

‘Even so, we know that we can do it. We know we can organise that period and we have the type of characters that can handle that.’
