It’s 12 years ago tomorrow since the Blues won the competition for the second time in the club’s history.

Kanu’s 37th-minute strike ensured Harry Redknapp’s side defeated Cardiff 1-0 at Wembley.

Celebrations went on long into the night for both the players and supporters as it capped off a memorable season, with Pompey also finishing eighth in the Premier League.

However, Johnson told that when he checked to see if his medal was still hidden away when checking out of the team's hotel the following morning, it had been stolen.

And the right-back discovered that keeper Jamie Ashdown had also had his nicked.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Johnson said: ‘As you do, we went out that night after the final and we had a proper night out as well.

‘As we left the hotel, I’ve tucked the medal away in the room, I’ve hidden it away in the bottom of my suitcase, inside this bag, which was in another bag and thought it was obviously safe.

‘I went out for the night and in the morning when I’m checking out of the hotel I thought I’d just make sure I still had the medal – and it had gone.

‘Someone had nicked it! Somebody had broken into my hotel room and stolen the medal!

‘I was questioning myself, thinking I’d put it somewhere else, because when I got in the night before I wasn’t in a sober state, shall I say.

‘I thought maybe I’d moved it, but at breakfast I told the lads and Jamie Ashdown had his medal nicked as well, the same thing had happened to him.

‘That was it, gone, never seen again.'

Although Johnson never retrieved his original, the FA made him another.

He added: ‘The FA made us another one, so I’ve got a medal, but the one from the game got stolen.’
