They went into the interval behind behind courtesy of a Sean Raggett own goal.

A half-time double substitution from Jackett helped flip the game on its head, though. John Marquis’ penalty and Naylor’s arrowed strike put Pompey ahead before Jerome Opoku netted an equaliser for Argyle with 12 minutes left.

The stalemate put paid to the Blues' six-match unbeaten streak on the road, while they also missed a chance to go up to third in the table.

Naylor admitted the visitors weren't at their best in opening 45 minutes against a Pilgrims side who have the best home record in League One this season.

But the skipper felt the resolve Pompey displayed to fight back demonstrated the hallmarks of a team who can yield promotion.

Naylor said: ‘It's hard place to come and we weren't at our best so we'll take a point.

‘At half-time, we said "we don't lose this game" and we didn't. We feel we let ourselves down in the first half and were a lot better in the second half.

‘We had a few changes and had changes at half-time but we know how we play and every lad knows the way that we play.

‘Whoever comes in has got to deal with it and be professional. We were disappointed in the first half but we played a lot better in the second half. We just couldn't get the three points.

‘I think it does show the sign of a good team. We weren't at our best but it shows that we have got it all in the changing room.

‘We have got ability throughout the team and it has showed over the past few weeks. We maybe were a bit disappointed with the performance but we don't have to be disheartened by the result.

‘Now we need to crack on against Crewe on Saturday.
