That’s according to the Scottish Sun, who claim that Hibs boss Jack Ross is desperate to wrap up a deal for the 22-year-old, who has been told he can leave Ibrox.

The Scottish Premiership side had a £200,000 bid for the midfielder-turned-right-back rejected on Wednesday, but have apparently now upped their bid.

They remain the only club interested in a permanent move for a player who featured 23 times for Kenny Jackett’s side last season.

Swiss side St Gallen have emerged as possible suitors, but are reported to be interested only in a loan switch.

That was an approach which initially interested Pompey, with Jackett keen to be reunited with the Scotland under-21 international.

However, The News understands such a reunion is not on the agenda.

McCrorie is said to be keen on a Hibs move after failing to feature for Rangers so far this season.

If a permanent switch to Easter Road is agreed, it will prove second time lucky for Ross.

The Hibs boss failed to hijack the youngster’s move to Fratton Park at the last minute in July 2019.

The Blues are keen to explore the loan market as they look to fill their 22-man squad for the new season.
