Upbeat Portsmouth boss declares 'positive' Cambridge United point amid Blues frustration

The Blues’ seven-match winning streak reached an end following a goalless draw against Cambridge United in a frustrating match.

Mousinho’s men struck the inside of the far post through Abu Kamara and Colby Bishop’s subsequent goal-bound shot was charged down, yet they were comfortably their best moments of the entire game.

Regardless, with Oxford United’s 2-0 defeat at Wigan, it extends the Blues’ lead to four at the top of League One after 14 games.

While Mousinho insists the point ‘wasn’t the end of the world’ for his in-form team.

He told The News: ‘I saw that Oxford lost, we look at their results, there’s no point in lying, we don’t say we don’t look at the table.

‘But we obviously want to take care of ourselves and, whatever happens in the league, the most important thing for us is to take this Cambridge point as a positive because of what we have done over the last 6-7 games.

‘I know Cambridge aren’t in the best run of form, but overall this is a tough, tough place to come. You saw that when the crowd get going and are on top of you.

‘I didn't think we got the rub of the green with the refereeing decisions, but it’s one of those things and we take the point and move on, I’m sure they'll turn over plenty of sides here.

‘If you are ever building a campaign where you want to do anything in the league, then a point away from home sometimes isn’t the end of the world.

‘You have to make sure you go and back it up by winning home games and then winning the away games where there is a weakness in the opponent. So far this season we’ve done that pretty well.

‘I think the good thing is in the dressing room there’s a bit of disappointment so it’s a really good place to be.’

For Cambridge, it was an important point having been on the receiving end of Cheltenham’s first victory of the season on Saturday.

And irrespective of the result, Mousinho was pleased with how his league leaders performed.

He added: ‘I thought it was a pretty good game of football. We were very, very good in terms of our overall performance, excellent in the first half, and dominated pretty much every area.

‘We didn't create a huge amount, but sometimes, when you’re away from home, they are tight games and with the chance we had at the back-end of the first half, we could have gone in at half-time in the lead.

‘The only disappointment is we didn’t put the ball into the back of the net. We defended our box brilliantly, there was really good play and some really good effort on display from the lads.’
