Why League One leaders Portsmouth could tonight be toppled by Doncaster for Christmas number one

Doncaster host Shrewsbury this evening in the knowledge victory would position them at the head of League One.

Darren Moore’s fourth-placed side are presently two points adrift of Kenny Jackett’s men – with two games in hand.

One of which is against Steve Cotterill’s Shrews at the Keepmoat Stadium (7.45pm).

That represents the league’s final fixture before Christmas Day – and could potentially see Pompey knocked down to second place without playing.

Doncaster head into the encounter off the back of four consecutive victories, most recently Saturday's 3-1 triumph at Burton.

As for Shrewsbury, they are undergoing something of a resurgence since former Pompey boss Cotterill was appointed.

They have triumphed 1-0 at both Hull and Lincoln in their last two matches, producing something of a shock.

Now they are bidding to complete a treble on the road against promotion challengers.
