The Millwall loanee was dismissed in Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat to Charlton.

The midfielder received a straight red card in stoppage-time for a challenge on the Addicks' Lyle Taylor.

Kenny Jackett planned on appealing the decision after the game and has confirmed the Blues have done so.

The Pompey boss revealed the FA's disciplinary panel are set to meet at around 2pm and decide whether Thompson will be available for Saturday's trip to Barnsley.

If the decision stands then the 23-year-old will also miss the Blues' games vital clash against Sunderland (December 22) and trip to Gillingham (December 26).

Jackett said: '˜The result will be know this afternoon '“ the panel are sitting around 2pm.

'˜By this afternoon we'll know if we're successful in our appeal or not.

'˜After that we can make arrangements and plan accordingly towards the Barnsley game on Saturday.

'˜You lodge the appeal as soon as we can, which we did. Then you have to supplement it with video evidence and your thoughts '“ all that happened on Wednesday.

'˜Pretty quickly then it gets to a panel and they decide.'

Despite the uncertainty over whether he'll travel to Oakwell, Thompson has remained calm during the process.

Jackett added: '˜Ben is level headed. He's a terrific character who brings a lot of personality and character to the group.

'˜He was surprised '“ as I was '“ that the red card was shown to him.

'˜He's been okay and is desperate to play.'
