Portsmouth told to keep showing same hunger
Pompey can still get better as they bid for League One promotion.
That's the message from manager Kenny Jackett as his troops look to seal a Championship return after a seven-season absence.
The Blues have made a superb start in their quest for promotion.
After losing just one of their 19 League One matches to date, Pompey have a four-point advantage over second-placed Sunderland at the top of the table.
But Jackett believes the Blues must build on their performances over the second half of the season if they are to achieve their aims. Â
He believes his team cannot afford to sit back and admire the view from their lofty position if they wish to sustain a concerted title challenge.Â
The manager said: 'You always have to look to try to improve.
'˜You need a hunger about you.
'˜After that you have to then look forward.
'˜What's gone is gone but we have given ourselves a great opportunity.
'˜We're better off being at the top than the bottom.
'˜We can't deny after 19 games there is a chance and a great opportunity for us.
'˜But most importantly you have to look forward to the next games and not look back.'
Jackett admitted confidence has grown within his squad as the season has progressed.
And should the Blues continue to show the same appetite they have so far, the Pompey boss insisted his team will keep getting better for the business end of the season. Â
'˜There are aspects of our game we can still improve on,' added Jackett.
'˜As you grow and play regularly the confidence begins to grow, which you can see with a number of players, the confidence level has grown.Â
'˜If we can keep the same appetite about us we'll continue to grow.'
