Midfielder James Cowan and boss Shaun Wilkinson were both red-carded as Rovers suffered a sixth successive league and cup defeat.

It is the club’s longest losing run of their Wessex League career, which began in 2016/17.

Four of the defeats have been in the league - two against Hamworthy - while they have also exited the FA Vase and Wessex League Cup.

They lost on penalties to Bashley in the Vase and conceded an injury-time penalty to lose at lower division Newport in the Wessex Cup.

In their latest loss they trailed 1-0 at the break at The County Ground before the game exploded around the hour mark.

Cowan was sent off for a tackle from behind and he was joined by the Hammers’ Max Buckner for his part in the melee that followed.

Almost immediately the visitors had striker Miles Everett - making his debut after joining from Horndean - sin-binned for dissent to a match official.

Hamworthy cashed in with two more goals in the 10 minutes Baffins were down to nine men.

Wilkinson received a red card for dissent before Hamworthy added insult to injury with a fourth goal deep into stoppage-time.

It was a repeat scoreline of the Dorset club’s league win at the PMC Stadium just over a fortnight earlier.

Ed Hodge followed up his hat-trick last month with two more goals as Tim Sills’ Hamworthy leapt into second place behind Fareham Town.

It was a losing Rovers debut for defender Adam Peake, who has signed on a dual registration from Isthmian League club Chichester City.
