The title-chasing Royals did wonders to get their Wessex League Premier Division game against Solent University on last weekend.

They were rewarded for their efforts with a thrilling 4-3 win against the Southampton-based students.

Now they face a similar problem ahead of Saturday’s scheduled home match with rock bottom Amesbury Town (3pm).

'We will be doing our utmost again to get the game on,' said Catlin.

'It is important that we get games played because we don't want to be left with too hectic a run-in at the end of the season.

'At the moment we have got a bit of momentum going and must look to keep it going.

'Currently we are top of the form table but hopefully that doesn't prove to be the kiss of death

'In recent weeks we have managed to narrow the gap between us and AFC Stoneham and Alresford Town.

'We have to make sure that we capitalise on any mistakes they make.

'All I can ask is that we keep doing our bit by continuing to pick up points.'

The home side - chasing a sixth win in seven league outings - are boosted by the return of striker Alex Baldacchino from injury.

Top scorer Dan Wooden is also back in the starting line-up following his midweek outing with Southern League Moneyfields.

He scored his side’s only goal in a 3-1 defeat at Winchester City.

Though Amesbury are bottom of the form table - having lost their last six games, including a 9-0 hammering at Stoneham and a 5-1 caning at Horndean - Catlin has warned against any complacency.

'Games against teams at the bottom can be equally as challenging,' he said.

'It is vital the players remain motivated.

'Amesbury are fighting for their lives and will be determined to try and get at least a point.

'We will have to match their work-rate.

'If we do that then our added quality should come through.

'The pitches at the moment can be a great leveller and we have to make sure that we adapt.’

Portchester are seven points adrift of leaders Stoneham - who travel to fifth-placed Lymington this weekend - with two games in hand.

They are also six points behind Alresford, but with just one game in hand.

The Magpies are also home to lowly opposition this weekend, with third-bottom Bournemouth visiting Arlebury Park.
